Overview
Data Science explores how data can be collected, processed, analyzed, and visualized to uncover patterns, inform decisions, and solve complex problems. At Lisburn University, we examine the ways data science can be applied—and sometimes misused—to drive advancements in technology, business, healthcare, government, and many other fields where data is a critical resource.
One day in class, your professor might present a dataset from a social media platform or an industry case study. You and your classmates analyze, interpret, and discuss the dataset from different perspectives, such as its source, its structure, the insights it reveals, the ethical considerations surrounding its use, and its real-world implications. Then, you apply analytical tools to create your own data-driven solutions or visualizations in response.
Career Opportunities
Our graduates work and intern in a wide range of fields, including data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, healthcare informatics, finance, cybersecurity, software development, and technology consulting. Many have gone on to join leading tech companies, start their own data-driven businesses, or pursue advanced degrees in data science, artificial intelligence, statistics, computer science, and related disciplines.
Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate an understanding of how data shapes patterns of decision-making, the expression of societal trends, technological advancements, and the relationships between information, power, and ethics in both local and global contexts.
Be able to use a variety of methodological tools, including statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualization, and programming, to analyze and interpret large datasets that inform decisions in diverse industries and fields.
Demonstrate an understanding of the possibilities, challenges, and ethical implications of data-driven solutions and prepare to use their knowledge to address real-world problems, promote innovation, and contribute to a more equitable and informed world.
