Overview
Biology delves into the intricate mechanisms of life, exploring how living organisms function, interact, and adapt to their environments. At Lisburn University, we investigate the fundamental principles of biology and how they apply to health, ecosystems, and innovation across various scientific fields.
One day in class, your professor might present a case study on the effects of environmental changes on a specific ecosystem. You and your classmates analyze, discuss, and evaluate the data from multiple perspectives, such as genetic diversity, species behavior, and ecological impact. Then, you collaborate to propose solutions or research questions to address the challenges.
Career Opportunities
Our biology graduates pursue diverse careers in fields such as healthcare, biotechnology, environmental science, research, education, and wildlife conservation. They work in hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, research labs, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Many have gone on to graduate studies in biology, medicine, public health, genetics, or environmental science, while others have launched innovative ventures in biotech or contributed to global sustainability initiatives.
Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate an understanding of how biological processes influence ecosystems, human health, and the diversity of life on Earth, while exploring the interconnectedness of organisms and their environments.
Be able to apply a variety of scientific tools and methods to analyze genetic, molecular, and ecological data, and interpret biological phenomena across different scales of life.
Demonstrate an understanding of the historical, ethical, and societal implications of biological research, and be prepared to use their knowledge to promote sustainability, innovation, and the well-being of global communities.
