Overview
Architecture examines how design, space, and structures influence and reflect human behavior and society. At Lisburn University, we explore how architectural forms and urban planning can shape cultural, social, and environmental outcomes — and sometimes be used to address challenges in sustainability, accessibility, and urban development.
In class, your professor might present an iconic building or urban development project. You and your classmates analyze, critique, and discuss the design from various perspectives, such as its functionality, aesthetic appeal, environmental impact, cultural significance, and the ways it addresses the needs of its users. Then, you’ll create your own architectural design proposal in response, integrating your insights and ideas.
Career Opportunities
Our graduates work and intern in a variety of roles across multiple sectors — urban planning, landscape architecture, construction management, real estate development, historic preservation, sustainable design, and more. Many graduates have gone on to work in architectural firms, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations. Additionally, some have pursued advanced degrees in fields such as urban design, environmental planning, civil engineering, and business management, while others have started their own design practices or consultancy firms.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students will demonstrate an understanding of how architecture shapes social interactions, reflects cultural values and norms, and influences political practices and power dynamics in both local and global contexts.
Students will be able to apply a variety of design and analytical tools to assess and critique architectural structures and urban planning projects, considering their functionality, environmental impact, and cultural relevance in both public and private spaces.
Students will understand the history, challenges, and ethical considerations of architectural practice, particularly in the context of sustainability, accessibility, and community development. They will be prepared to use their knowledge to design spaces that promote justice, inclusivity, and a better quality of life for all.
