Interior Design

You’ll develop the creative vision and critical thinking skills you need to analyze and design innovative spaces across a full spectrum of environments — and to make a difference in how people experience and interact with their surroundings.

Overview

Interior design explores the ways in which spaces, colors, materials, and furniture influence human behavior and emotional well-being. At Lisburn University, we examine how design can be used — and sometimes misused — to create functional, aesthetic, and sustainable environments that shape culture, society, and the way we live.

In class, your professor might show a design concept for a public space or residential interior. You and your classmates will analyze, critique, and discuss that design from different perspectives, such as its functionality, aesthetics, user experience, environmental impact, and cultural relevance. Then you’ll work on your own design project, applying your ideas and solutions in response to real-world challenges.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates work and intern in a variety of roles across diverse industries — residential and commercial interior design, architecture, furniture design, urban planning, retail design, exhibition design, sustainable design, project management, and construction. Many have also started their own design firms or worked with top interior design agencies. Additionally, some graduates pursue advanced studies in architecture, design management, environmental design, and urban development, further contributing to the evolution of spaces that shape our communities and culture.

Program Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate an understanding of how interior design shapes patterns of human interaction, the expression of cultural values and norms, spatial relationships, and our positions as local and global citizens.

Be able to use a variety of design tools and methodologies to analyze spaces, materials, lighting, and color in relation to human behavior, environmental sustainability, and the functional and aesthetic needs of various spaces.
