Overview
Landscape design explores how the arrangement of outdoor spaces reflects and influences human behavior and our relationship with the environment. At Lisburn University, we examine how landscape design can be used — and sometimes misused — to enhance or transform cultural, ecological, and social contexts.
In class, your professor might present an urban park redesign proposal. You and your classmates will analyze and critique the design from various perspectives, such as its functionality, environmental impact, aesthetic appeal, and how it fosters community interaction. Then, you’ll create your own landscape design concept, considering these elements to improve public spaces.
Career Opportunities
Our graduates work and intern in a variety of fields — landscape architecture, urban planning, environmental design, horticulture, public spaces management, ecological restoration, and sustainable design. Many work with design firms, government agencies, and non-profit organizations dedicated to community development and environmental sustainability. We’ve also had graduates start their own landscape design businesses and others pursue graduate studies in urban planning, environmental science, and architecture, continuing their journey to shape the outdoor spaces of the future.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students will demonstrate an understanding of how landscape design influences social interactions, the expression of cultural values, and the way public and private spaces shape human behavior, both locally and globally.
