Major in Economics

You’ll develop the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to understand and evaluate economic issues across a wide range of sectors — and to make informed decisions that impact both local and global economies.

Overview

Economics addresses the ways in which financial systems, markets, and policies influence and reflect human behavior. At Lisburn University, we explore the many ways that economics shapes and is shaped by culture, law, politics, and business, as well as how economic theories and decisions impact societies worldwide.

One day in class, your professor might present an economic model or real-world case study. You and your classmates will analyze, critique, and discuss that model or case from different perspectives, such as its assumptions, implications, and real-world applications. Then you’ll develop your own analysis or economic policy proposal in response.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates work and intern in a range of jobs in various sectors — finance, banking, government, consulting, public policy, international organizations, research institutions, and non-profit organizations. Many have pursued careers as economic analysts, financial planners, policy advisors, or market researchers. We’ve also had graduates start their own businesses and others go on to graduate school in economics, business administration, law, public policy, and international relations.
