Overview
Integrative Biology examines the interconnectedness of life across all scales, from molecules to ecosystems. At Lisburn University, we explore how biological systems function, adapt, and interact in diverse environments, equipping students to address global challenges in health, sustainability, and biodiversity.
One day in class, your professor might present a case study on an endangered species or a complex ecosystem. You and your classmates analyze, critique, and discuss the interplay of genetic, physiological, and environmental factors that influence its survival. Then you propose a conservation strategy or research question to deepen understanding and contribute to real-world solutions.
Career Opportunities
Our graduates work and intern in a wide array of fields, including healthcare, environmental conservation, biotechnology, education, research, and government agencies. Many have gone on to careers in ecological consulting, genetic research, wildlife management, and pharmaceutical development. Others have pursued advanced degrees in fields such as medicine, veterinary science, environmental science, molecular biology, and public health, contributing to groundbreaking discoveries and solutions in the life sciences.
Program Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate an understanding of how biological systems interact at various levels, from molecular and cellular processes to ecosystems, and how these interactions shape the diversity and functionality of life on Earth.
Be able to use a variety of methodological tools, including laboratory techniques, field studies, and computational analysis, to investigate complex biological phenomena and solve real-world problems in the life sciences.
Demonstrate an understanding of the historical and contemporary challenges in biology, including ethical considerations and the impact of scientific discoveries on society, and be prepared to use their knowledge to contribute to sustainable and equitable solutions for a healthier planet.
